Palmerston" North w<as«ni Me to-day'in honour of the arrival of .the Governor to take up his residence here for a period of two years. Lord 'Plunket arrived from Napier by the 2.45 p.m. train, and was welcomed by the Mayor (Mr. Nash), the member for the district (Mr. W. T. Wood), and the town clerk (Mr. Collingw'oe/I}. He was driven to the show grounds, where « gathering- of upwards of 5000 people assembled. The- Mayor and Mr. Wood publicly welcomed the Governor and Lady Plunket, and the town clerk read an address presented by the citizens-:. Lord Plunket delivered an address, thanking the people for their welcome, and saying that he looked forward with pleasure to spending two years in their midst. The. Governor was then driven to his residence at Hokowhitu by a route lbund the square, which was gaily decorated for the occasion. A citizens' banquet will probably be held at a future date.
