THE PRO.-BLACKS.
NORTHERN UNION MATCH. THE ENGLISHMEN OUTPLAYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. (Received March 18, 9.37 p.m.) Sydney, March 18. From a spectacular point of view, the accounts in English newspapers say, the Northern Union match against the New Zealamlers at Stamford Bridge was a great success. About 12,000 were present. The Englishmen were completely outplayed. In the first half Smith scored for the New Zealanders, after a brilliant rua, Messenger converting. Only fine tackling by Taylor saved the English line from being crossed on several occasions. Wrigley was particularly noticeable for lino work. After a good bout at passing, the Northerners scored, but failed to convert'. The second half -aw some fine passing by Wynyard and Messenger, from which Johnston scored, but Messenger foiled to add the points. Soon after Todd crossed. Messenger this time succeeded, and followed by kicking a goal off a, try secured by Johnston. In the last five minutes the Englishmen got going, and Eccles, who was injured early in the game, crossed the lino, but the place-kick failed, the visitors winning by 18 points to 6.
