THREE BOYS IN A BOAT.

MISSING LADS SAFE.

[by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

WAIHI, Tuesday. The missing boys, Saunders, Cathey, and Lane, who, according to the Maoris at Bowentown Heads, were swept out to sea in an open boat., have turned up at Katikati. A telegram from Constable Dunn, stationed at Katikati, was received by the sergeant of police here, at 1.30 p.m. to-day, as follows:—"The three boys dime here m a boat from the heads last night, and are going back to Waihi to-morrow."' It seems that they took ample food with them for two or three days when they left Waihi, and had contemplated a pig-hunting expedition to Matakana Island, proposing to close the outing by celebrating St. Patrick's Day at the races at Paeroa.

Meanwhile the parents of one of them received Avoid from some Maoris stating that a boat containing three boys had been swept out to sea, and the fathers at once set out for Bowentown to make search for their missing offspring. There they were informed that the boys had been seen in the harbour, and that their boat and horses were missing. The search proved futile, and the party returned to Waihijater on Monday night, and set out again for the coast early this morning, with the intention of searching Matakana Island. Subsequently the message, received here by the police was sent on to them by special messenger, and the incident closed, as far as the search and anxiety of the parents were concerned.
