Watchman: On resuming work after the holidays the rise to connect with the No. 2 winze was commenced on the footwall dropper, and has been carried tip lift through most favourable country. No. 2 winze is now down 32tt. The air being light, and there being an increase of water, I have suspended work here pending connection being made by the rise. The men in the winze will be employed in extending the intermediate level eastward on the course of the Windfall reef. Golden Belt: No. 1 level south has been extended 6ft, and the ore from here is still of good payable qualitv. A start has been made to break" out ore in the stones. Crushing will be resumed at the end of the week. New Moanataiari: We are opening out an intermediate level on the Cambria reef from the main rise, connecting No. 3 level with the old Cambria No. 4 level. A large block will be available from this point up to the level above, and,, as the country and indications generally are most favourable, the work in hand is a most important one. - . ' New Waitekauri: Baker's pass— have advanced No. 4 stopo south 10ft. The lode will average l£ft and iii payable, but tTfe reef going north has "not improved so far. It is very heavily charged with copper, therefore we are not saving it. The stope over Grace's continues to look very well, showing colours and dabs of gold at every breaking down. ."■-"' Magnet: The drive, north on the main reef lias been advanced a further 6ft in congenial sandstone country. The drive south on the reef haß now been picked up, repaired, and vails laid for 117 ft from flat-sheet. I hope to have all this work finished during the week and to be in a fair way of rising on the junction of the reefs. Golden Cross: The west crosscut-,to, intersect tho Golden Cross lode Is now completed for 392 ft, leaving 338 ft to be retimbered to reach the lode. The level is not quite clear of the break. The main level towards No. 1 shaft has not been in operation during the week. Reliance: The crosscut is now in 25ft eastward. We have met with several small seams of quartz carrying some nice-looking mineral, but we eaw no gold. I expect to get the reef in about another 14ft or 15ft of driving. May Queen Extended': The new drive ia in 255 ft. in clean sandstone country. In Hansen's winze a start has been made to open out at. a depth of 54ft. The ore shows gold at/ each breaking down, and, being heavily mineralised, should crush well. This lode shows decided improvement going down. About eight to nine loads of ore in. hand will be treated shortly. «:■■» ■ '<

Rising Sun: Driving north on the main reef'jp being: continued with two men. The reef on the face averages about 2ft in width and the country is a good deal easier. In the winze work has been resumed in the north face on the hangingwall reef. The latter is about 2ffc wide and gives good prospects by washing, whilst colours can be seen through the ore.
