DELAY OF STEAMERS.

The strong southerly gale which has pr»» vailed during the pa-st few days blew itself out yesterday morning, the wind going into the north-west, with moderate conditions.

The Union Company's steamer Talune, : which left Gisborno shortly before noon on Wednesday last, did not reach Auckland until one p.m. yesterday, her passage having been much prolonged by thick, dirty ! weather.

The steamer India, which arrived from Valparaiso yesterday, fell in with the gale when off the New Zealand coast on Wednesday. The gale was of an exceptional character, (ffld the steamer being in very light trim made bad weather of it. The lndra left Valparaiso some, hours ahead of the Kildale, which arrived at Auckland on Wednesday, but making a different course to the Kildale got a good buffeting all the way through. ,

ROUGH PASSAGE OF THE VICTORIA.

GiHiioiiNK, Thursday.

The Victoria arrived at nine o'clock this morning, after a rough passage of 41 hours from Auckland. The weather was thick and dirty, and heavy seas were encountered in the Bay of Plenty. At noon yesterday the Victoria readied the vicinity of Cape Runaway, and sheltered there for six hours.
