LAND FOR SETTLEMENT

OPENING OF 30,000 ACRES.

IN AUCKLAND DISTRICT.

Next month there will bo thrown open for selection upwards of 30,000 (teres of land in Auckland province, including 4354 acres of the well-known Wnimana Blockin th* Bay of Plenty, and wm 27,000 acres of second-class unsurveyed, heavy bush land in Opotiki County. The Waimana lands will be open for selection at Auckland and Whakatanc on Monday August 5, and the ballot will be taken on August 30 at the tatter place. l, the case of the Opotiki hinds, applications wi|j be received on August 12, at Auckland and Opotiki, the ballot, being on August 14, at Opotiki. The Waimana Block is divided into three, groups—dairy farms, ordinary | farms, and village allotments, on the L.I.P. | tenure. The dairy farms vary from 78 acres to 210 acres in extent, at half-yearly rentals ranging from £18 18s to £52, there ! being seven sections in all. There are ten ordinary farm.; of from 104 acres to 751 'acres, the half-yearly rentals ranging from £19 to £48. This land is in the Wairnana Valley, within convenient distance of Opotiki. Ohiwa, and Whakatane, and the village of Taneatua. The altitude varies from 100 ft to 900 ft, and the flats vary from rich alluvial deposit in gravel to gravel with a light covering. The soil on the hills is of light loamy character, of fair quality, but inferior in places, and each farm is well watered.

The Opotiki land totals in all 27,628 acres, and it will be offered in fairly huge sections, ranging from 580 acres to 1800 acres. These areas will be open for sale or selection, either for cash or en the O.R.P. or L.I.P. tenure. A good deal of the land is high country, ranging from 300 ft to 2800 ft above sea-level, covered with heavy forest, Generally speaking, the land lies in Blocks XIV I XV., and XVI., Waioeka S.D. ; Blocks 11. and 111., Waioeka South S.D.; and in the Waiawa and Urutawa S.D.
