AMERICA AND JAPAN. STRONG WAR SPIRIT INDIGNANT JAPANESE. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— London, July 1. Mr. Samuel, a member of the j Queensland Legislative Council, who (has returned from a visit to China and Japan, in the course of an interview' said that over the school question a great deal of feeling had 'been aroused in Japan against California. I There was, he said, a strong war spirit amongst the troops, who : thought there was nothing to teach them in the art of war. They were consequently not afraid of a conflict with the United States. Mr. Samuel added that Japan appeared to be prepared to force the recognition of her right to be regarded as a first-class Power. JAPANESE POACHERS. London, July I. A United States cutter captured 20 Japanese seal poachers at the Pribyloff Islands, Alaska (sometimes called Seal Islands).
