The Silting Question: A letter was received from tho Ohincmuri County Council, forwarding a report from Mr. J. Stewart, C.E., on the silfcing-up of the Ohinemuri and YVaifiou Rivers. Received. Sanitation: Dr. John S. Purdy (district health officer) wrote, stating that he. had had Block 27 inspected from a sanitary point of view, and advised that a proper sanitary system should be instituted by tho Council lor tins district, which was thickly populated, and in which the provision for such matters was totally inadequate. The Chairman said that ho had also had this matter under consideration for some time, and quite agreed with the opinion of Dr. Purdy, and would go still further, and include Parawai in the districts requiring attention in this respect. While in Auckland recently ho had made inquiry as to the best method of carrying this out, but as there were several methods adopted by the various local bodies around Auckland, ho had not been able to arrive at a decision as to which would be suitable for this district. He sugjested that the engineer visit the surround- 1 ing districts, and make inquiries into tho various methods in use, and report at next meeting of the Council as to the one most suitable for Thames, and at the same time to inquire, into and report on tho advisability of purchasing a stone-breaker for the use of the Council. ' The Chairman stated that he had ascertained that these were in use in Auckland and tho surrounding boroughs, and were giving every satisfaction, producing broken metal at. a cost of about 2s 6d per yard, which would be a great saving on the price paid at present. The suggestions of the chairman were agreed to. tho engineer to report on both matters next meeting of the Council. Finance: The Paymaster-General wrote, informing tho Council that the sum of £4J;> 3s 2d had been placed to the credit of the Council, being goldfields revenue for tho period ending March 31, 1907. and a further sum of £6 14s 7d, being lines collected at the Warden's and Magistrate's Court for the same period. A Water-race: Tin- engineer reported on tho application of the Thames Valley Dairying Company for a license for a waterrace at Omahu, and pointed out that 't was the intention of the company to use the county drains for the conveyance of lie water to their factory, which he could net secommended for various reasons, among which was the danger of flooding the Ijw lying grounds in times of heavy rain by the introduction of outside water, as the drains were often taxed to tho utmost at such times to carry the water which naturally accumulated in wet weather, and if an extra quantity of water was introduced from an outside district there would be serious danger of Hooding. The report suggested that, as tho amount of water required by the company was not very great, it would ]be more conveniently conveyed by means ■of iron - pipes along the side of tne road, i which would bo the- best and safest solution |of the difficulty. The report was adopted, and the chairman and, eugineer were appointee! to confer with the company on the matter.

Piako Swamp: It was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, to ask the Government to place a sum of money on the Estimates to provide for the main road across the Piako Swamp being connected with Thames county main road at the most suitable point, so as to establish connection between the I'iako laud and the Thames.
