PROPOSED UNION OF EMPLOYERS.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.]

Stratford, Friday. At a large and representative meeting of Taranaki dairy factory directors and proprietors held' here it was unanimously decided to form an industrial union of employers under the Act.- A meeting is to be held at Stratford .to again adopt rules and discuss a proposal to affiliate with the National Federation of Employers. CHEESE VERSUS BUTTER. [by. telegraph.—own correspondent.] . Dunedin, Thursday. In dealing with the question of , cheese versus butter-making, the annual report of the .National Dairy Association (South Island) of New Zealand says: "It would i ( -eem wiser that for a year, at least, butter factories should stick to butter-making, and maintain their good name and good trade in the British market. ■ It teems at least probable that the feeling in favour of cheese-making as against outter-niakiiig, now so manifest in Taranaki, is the same in the United : States and : other countries, and there is danger of oveivsupply. Having built up such an excellent, reputation for high-claw butter la New Zealand at many , factories,■". it seems a pity to change hurriedly to cheese-making before we aremore certain as to the; kind of cheese to market." '■ ■ , . Concerning the Agricultural Department, the report says: "Politicians and Parliament axe very sparing in their- votes of money to the Agricultural Department: Our dairy staff needs more men , now. 1 It is most desirable that: one of the 'dairy staff should be sent" Home to examine and report on our produce as it lauds there. Some of • our [staff , should .' also visit other countries and ee« what is being dune there, I and report." '■'■■'. . - til ' I
