j Mr. Jones, the Sydney manager of the company, in an inlerviow stated that he .had received a cablegram from the directors to that effect, and instructing him to disipose of all property here and wind up the affairs of the company in Sydney without j delay. He intends to close the office by June 30. The property in Sydney mostly consists of a coal hulk and a urge quantity of coal and office fittings. | Mr. Jones also said the primary cause of the withdrawal was the failure of the Ships Subsidy Bill to pass Congress, and this was helped . along in great measure by the unfortunate trouble which the steamers got into, although it must not be (forgotten that j for years they had run with clocklike regularity.

He lias no information as to what is to bo done with the steamers.
