ADVANCE IN BREAD, [by telegraph.— association.] , I Wellington, Thursday. The Wellington • bakers have decided to raise by a halfpenny, the price of the 21b loaf, which will then cost 3£d. . '~ / Christchurch, Thursday. As anticipated when the price of flour was raised; last week a corresponding increase has been made in the price of bread. A large meeting of the Master Bakers' Association to-day decided to raise the price from 6d to 6£d per 41b loaf, the change beginning from to-day. ■;
•NO CHANGE IN SOOTH OATERBURY. [by telegraph.— association.] - •* Timaeu, Thursday. •- As a result of dissension in the ranks of the local bakers, the price of bread has not been advanced. The ifkrath Canterbury Master Bakers' Union . intended to raise the price, but several bakers have re-' fused' to join tne union, and the latter body threatens to penalise the non-members by refusing to increase the price of bread. Ins this way the union hopes to make all the South Canterbury bakers join the union, the alternative being to carry on business at a loss. The union takes the stand that it is unfair that its members should band together for the general good of the bakery | trade, while .some stand out, and, while paying no fees, reap, equal benefits with [ members? of the union. ; . ,_i .
