OTAHUHU MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
' A sitting of the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court -was held on Thursday, Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., presiding. A young man was charged with assaulting R. L. Absolum in the Star Hotel on January 14. The prosecution called Mrs. Cuize, wife of the licensee of the hotel,, and ■. R. L. Absolum as ! witnesses, and \ tho defendant called : four of his companions on his behalf. The evidence of two-of--the •■witnesses <Edi« McAnulty and: P. Townsehd) was considered'unsatisfactory by His Worship, who, when passing sentence on accused, severely cautioned him. and the two foregoing witnesses as to the risk they ran of being. charged with perjury if they came to the Court and gave evidence Of. the character they had just given. The accused was fined £3 and 19s costs., with the alternative of a . month's hard ■labour. .'.". ' _ ' ; Two vold age pension claims, J. Smith (£9) and J. Dennison (£26) were renewed.
