LOCAL RATES AND TAXES.
Sir,l fool " sure Mr. Win. Ranstcad.is qui able to defend himself -from Mi. Wilks' long array of figures without my 111 any way coming to his help. At the same time, I would like to point out that Mr. Wilks makes rash statements, which cannot bo borne out. For instant®: " either governments nor municipalities can carry on public works so well .and so economy cally as private individuals or companies. I would like to point out that the £100,000,000 debt which we were told was left to the Moderates on their ©lection" to the London County Council has been shown by tho latest return to be only £58,000,000, and of that sum some £10,000,000 was loans to other corporations. Besides, they left £1,000,000 in hand ,for tho 'incomers to juggle with, . but who, not content, are .already raising large loans. Eaik Plat.
