PREMIERS AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE.

SPEECH BY THE KING.

London, May 9. King Edward gave a dinner to the Premiers at Buckingham Palace yesterday. There were present the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Connaught, the Duke of Fife, and the Duke of Argyll, the members of the British Cabinet and the members of the late Cabinet, the Premier of Victoria (Mr. Bent), Sir W. J. Lyne, Lord Milner, the High Commissioner for Canada (Lord Strathcona) the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr. Reeves), and the Agents-General. His Majesty during the banquet spoke as follows :—" I cannot leave this room without raising my glass and wishing prosperity and happiness to the guests representing my oversea dominions. I give a hearty welcome to the distinguished statesmen here to-night, and trust they will carry away an agreeable impression of the Motherland. I wish them ' God-speed' on the voyage home." The band of the Irish Guards' played selections during the dinner.

WHAT THE PREMIER IS DOING.

London, May 9. Sir Joseph Ward will be entertained at dinner this evening by Mr. Walters (managing proprietor of the Times), and at midnight will leave for Scotland, to receive the freedom of the City of Edinburgh. f Lady Ward will launch the Union Company's steamer Maori, at Dumbarton, on Saturday. >
