Lyne has received a deputation from members of the London and Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, also the associated Chambers of Commerce, who asked that the duties on advertising catalogues be removed or made payable .in England in bulk. y. Sir W. J.Lyne replied that it was impossible to remove the duties, but he would consider .the other suggestion.. He implied that it might be necessary to extend the duty to magazines which, While containing an excessive proportion of advertisements, evade r the payment of duty as advertising catalogues. He pointedly referred to Great Britain's disinclination to grant preference to the colonies. . . '~
