THE GOLDFIELDS.
f — ' MAY QUEEN EXTENDED. A telegram received by Sir. J. J. Macky ''(secretary of the May Queen Extended) from ; the mine manager yesterday is as follows Rocky Point reef west showing strong dabs of gold in solid quartz and mineral. Reef is 2ft wide." MAORILAND. (' Crushing has been proceeded with at the Maori!arid mine, the wholo of the. stamps running one shift per day. During the week 15 tons have been treated; and the assay ..value, is put • down at £2 2s fa - ton. Some 18 toils 'of the parcel from;trie Young* New Zealand l reef remain •to bo treated/ Amalgam recovered totals 15oz, and is valued at £11. ■ . . " TALISMAN. ' ' Concerning development work at No. 13 level of the Talisman Consolidated! mine the following cable, has been despatched to the London office of the company: —" South branch drive off main south drive, 185 f t;, from ' 166 ft to face, ' width of reef 4ft 6in;; average assay value, £7 per ton." , MINE MANAGERS'. REPORTS.. Old Hauraki (May 6): The recent crushing turned out a little better than I expected. The gold in No. 7 leader appears to 1)« much heavier and , not so showy as in. some of, the others. I am of opinion there is something better in this locality than yet discovered. It is impossible to do" any more to adTa-ritsgo from the top of the rise for want of ventilation, but continuation of the crosscut in the upper level about 40ft .would connect the top of the rise and give good ventilation throughout these workings. It would also save hundreds of feet of trucking, and also enable a large portion of the high hill behind the company's office to be cheaply prospected, with backs of over 100 ft available. B'.ockmoro and partv are crushing about two tens and a-half of ore selected from two small leader*, and from prospects obtained while.breaking it should ■ crush fairly well. Anderson and I'raser. in No. 10 tribute, are driving north-east- on o lead which looks verv promising. They occasionally see colours and dabs of coarse gold in the stone and so far the lead gives good payable prospects by dish and mortar tests. t ', ~ Co as! or United (May 7): Since my last letter, in which I mentioned the improvement, m the reef I am now pleased to report that I have =een gold in the stone, and the reef is increasing in size every foot we go, so that instead. of breaking down the lode, and throwing- it over the tip we are stripping the reef, and up to the present have done 6ft or 7ft-. .After a close study of the phvsical features of this lode I have come to the conclusion that it is the same body or ore that I intersected on the surface before the present company was formed. I am putting in a short crosscut to determine the value of the lode.
