BOROUGH COUNCILS;

.'' t MOUNT EDEN. _" The ordinary meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council was held last evening, those present being the Mayor (Mr. Oliver Nicholson): and Messrs. E. Yates, C. Hudson, O. Crudge, J- Davis, E. H. Potter, R. ; Boss, W. - Wcolloy, J. P. Hooton, S. Gordon, T. S. Jacka, S. G. Burns, C. J. Tunks. This being the first meeting of the Council since it was elected, the councillors and the Mayor were formally sworn in. Mr. Hudson, on behalf -of the Council, congratulated the Mayor/ on his return to office. The Mayor thanked the Council for' the kindly feeling expressed, and in return, congratulated the members of the Council on being returned unopposed. Among the correspondence received was a letter from the town clerk (Mr H. W. Wilson), enclosing copies of the city drainage scheme, and asking whether, in view of the imnortanco of the question, they were prepared to consider the question of a Greater Auckland, with a view to carrying out a comprehensive drainage acheme. Consideration was i deferred. Mr. Levi Stanton was appointed as dog registrar, for another term. , : : - BIRKENHEAD. < The monthly meeting of the above Council was held last evening, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr. Alex. Keyes) and Messrs. Kay, Hadfield, McPhail, Wallace, Clements, Skeates, and Pitt. . Mr H. M. Wilson, borough engineer, wrote recommending the Council to delay the contract for cutting the roadway and reclamation works at the wharf during thewinter months. He suggested that -the works be delayed until October next. / This course was adooted. The estimates for the ensuing year were submitted by the town clerk and approved of. On the motion of Mr. Wallace, , it was decided that the Council should meet and make an inspection of the different roads in the district, with a view to putting them in repair for the winter months.
