NEW YORK INSURANCE SCANDALS.
OFFICIAL'S DISMISSAL
REFUSED.
By Telegraph. Association.— . New York, May 7. • The Senate of New York State by 27 to 14 has rejected the recommendation of Governor Hughes to dismiss Mr. Otto Kelsey, superintendent; -of State Insurance, on the ground of inefficiency in the discharge of his duties. ,
Governor Hughes, in February last, under a law permitting »- ; Governor- to .take proofs of an official's efficiency, summoned Mr. Kelsey to appear before him. Mr. Reiser appeared as ordered, and answered questions. In his answers, ho said ho had read the report of the Insurance Inquiry Commission, but only.- cursorily. According to the. New York correspondent of the Times, Mr. Kelsey is a man of integrity and ability, and preferred to rely upon the justice of the Senate rather than that of the Governor.
