' After, sitting for an hour and 1 a-half, a conference between. representatives of the Wellington General Labourers' .■; Union and of ' the, suburban local bodies on * the one side, , and the secretary of the Employers' Associationoorn r the other, ? resulted in a failure to arrive at any agreement as to the hours of work and wages. The following delegates were present —Messrs. J. G. Harkness (Onslow Borough Council), T. F. Moore (Hutt. County ;••'.. Council), J. '?. ; E. Thompson; (Karori Borough ' Council), W. H. Cooke > (Petone Borough Council), J. : Ward (Hutt Borough v Council), A. ,W. Grenfell (secretary of the ~, Employers' Association), , and P. O'Keefe, Stewart Governor,; and J. Reardon (president, vicepresident, and secretary respectively of the General Labourers' 'Union). ' The following resolution was carried: " That the demands : of- the --.Labourers'; Union involve such increased expenditure on the. part of the local bodies affected that there is : no alternative but to allow the whole matter to go direct to tide Arbitration Court."
