ACCIDENT TO A STEAMER.
THE BASBY BEACHED.

Sydney, April 7. It is reported from Gabo Island that in thick weather, at half-past three o'clock thin morning, the steamer Eagby struck on the Skerries Reef.
The bottom of the steamer was seriously damaged, and the water gained rapidly. The, steamer has been beached in Gabo Harbour. The sea is smooth. >
The Eaaby ie an iron steamer of the following dimensions: Length, 250.7 ft; breadth. 32ft; depth, 21.4 ft; tonnage, 1489. She was built at Stockton-on-Tees, England, in 1873, and came out to Melbourne in 1879, and has since been engaged in the intercolonial trade. .She in owned by Messrs. James Paterson and Edward Newbigin, of Melbourne.
