MAORI GIRLS FOR DOMESTIC SERVICE
AN ENCOURAGING REPORT.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Gisp.orne, Friday. The subject of Maori girls taking up domestic service was discussed at Te Ante Association's Conference to-day. A letter from the Rev. Gittos (Auckland) was read, stating that in Auckland Maori girls ha 1 been in service for a long time with success. Most of them belonged to rangatiru families. So good had been the conduct of the girls that if there were twice as many looking for positions they could all be accommodated. They worked under a rough code of rules, and were under the personal supervision of a lady church worker. It was resolved, "That this conference, believing that the future welfare of the Maori race is largely dependent on the work of women in the management of the home and training of their children, would strongly advocate Maori girls seeking employment in good pakeha homes as domestic servants, where they may most effectively be fitted to benefit both themselves and their race."
