AN AMATEUR BURGLARY.
[UY TELEGRAPH. —I'RESS ASSOCIATION'.]
Fkilding. Thursday. . A burglary is reported to-day from Halcombe at the house of Mr. A. D. Scott, who, with his family, had been away attending his father's funeral at Lower Rangitikei. When the family returned they found the house in a state of confusion, every drawer, box, and package having been ransacked, and the contents strewn about. The only article missed so far is a lady's gold watch and chain, valued at £20. A lamp had been lighted by the intruder, who also indulged in supper. Apparently an attempt was first made to get into the house by the sittingroom window, then a back window-pane was broken, and a door unlocked. There is no clue as yet to the perpetrator, but indications appear to show that the robbery was the work of an amateur.
