NEW TENDERS TO BE CALLED.

New York, January 27. The United States Government has rejected the recent bids for the construction of the Panama Canal and new tenders are to be invited.

The tenders referred to were for labour at a percentage of the total cost of the work. The " bids," as they call them in America, ranged from 6| to 28 per cent., and the. lowest tenderers were Messrs. Oliver and Bangs. It was a conditfcrl Chat the contractors should have a capital of £1.000.000, and give a bond for £600,000. It. was stated that if they got the. contract Oliver and Hangs intended to employ American negroes.
