THE DUTY OX BORING MACHINERY.

New Plymouth, Tuesday. A dkpi'Tation" representing the petroleum interest waited on the Don. J. Millar, Minister for Customs, to-night, asking for a reduction in the. duty on petroleum-boring machinery, and remission of the duties already paid. Tito Minister promised to look into the matter.
The petroleum development works are proceeding very satisfactorily in all directions, and the judications arc not diminish-
Some time ago the Gisborue Oil Company forwarded a, communication to the Hon. J. Carroll, requesting that a detailed survey of the Gisbovne district might be made"by the geological staff, so as to enable the company to determine the best site for a borehole. The Government now states that it cannot take the responsibility of executing a detailed survey of the locality.
