THE SHANGHAI TROUBLE.
QUESTION OF MIXED COURTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association Copyright. Shanghai, December 14. The Taotai of Shanghai has refused to reopen the mixed Court at Shanghai unless the British assessor is removed. He says the Chinese Government intends to insist on exercising increased authority in the British settlement. We assume that the mixed Court referred to is that in which .Europeans are tried on, criminal charges. There was a deal of trouble while the Russians were interned at Shanghai owing to offences against Chinese being lightly dealt with by the mixed Courts.
