SUDDEN DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRHSS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Wednesday. The sudden death occurred this afternoon of an old resident named William Cottier, aged 65. He had visited two married daughters in the morning, and dozed in the afternoon. About half-past four p.m., when stooping, lie fell to the ground and never regained consciousness. Death was apparently, due to apoplexy and weak heart. Deceased was born in the Isle of Man, leaving there about 1857, and proceeding to Australia to join in the search for gold. He came to this colony in the, early ci rties, arriving at New Plymouth iu 1860 as a military settler during the Maori war, after which he became a. hotelkeeper here, eventually owning the Criterion Hotel. He was greatly respected. His death was a severe shock to hi? wife and family.
