HOTELS IN THE GREY DISTRICT.
HIGH PRAISE FROM THE LICENSING BENCH. [by telegraph.—press association.] Grey-mouth, Wednesday. At the conclusion of the. . business of the Licensing Bench, the chairman, on behalf of the Bench, stated that during the past year there had been a marked' improvement in the general conduct of licensed premises, and iie complimented the licensed victuallers as a body for the commendable manner in which they had conformed to the requirements! of the Licensing Act. Hotelkeepers in this district were evidently making strenuous efforts to obey the law, and on the result obtained they were deserving of high praise. The police also deserved special commendation. They had' strictly earned out their duties, but in a judicious manner, and although at times people might have thought they were acting harshly, it must bo remembered that they were only fulfilling their duty in seeing that the requirements of the law were being properly observed.
