RECEPTION .BY UNITED STATES CONSUL-GENERAL. CONSTTL'GENERAt DIMJKGHAM (United States) and Mrs. Dillingham held a reception at their private residence, Gladstone Road, yesterday, in honour of the visit of the Protet, Commodore Acligard and Captain Carre, aud Flag-Lieutenant Mayson were present, and among the invited guests were Sir John and Lady Campbell, M. and Mme. Eoeufve, Vice-Consul General Bachelder (United States) and Mrs. Bachelder, Dr. and Mrs. Raynor and Miss McLeod, Mr. and Mrs. Duthie, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Tewsley, Professor and the Misses Brown, Rev. Mark Sutton, Dr. and Mrs. Parkes, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Myers, Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. McMillan, Misses Myers, Rooke, and Lttsk, and Messrs. A.B. J. Irvine, C. S. Gillies, and McLean. The house was very prettily decorated, the British, United States, and French flags being prominently displayed. An orchestra rendered patriotic airs, and an excellent supper was served. The reception was an unqualified success. The party of officers from the Protet who visited the thermal district returned to town last evening. The party consisted of Flag-Lieutenant Mayson, Staff-Surgeon Michel, Lieutenants Tourreil and Thouroude Sub-Lieutenants Vincent, Petit, and Sabattier, and Engineer Vallou. The Protet leaves here for Noumea at ten a.m. to-day.
