5 RECORD STEAMING OF THE SIERRA. i ; The mail steamer Sierra arrived from San i * Francisco and island ports somewhat unj expectedly early yesterday morning, the steamer having anticipated her due time of ( arrival by fully 36 hours. The Sierra left ! San Francisco on the afternoon of April i 23, nearly four hours late, and made a rapid run to Honolulu, where she arrived •I at five a.m. on the 29th. Resuming the ! voyage at six p.m. the same date, the i Sierra put up a record on the run to Pago Pago, covering the distance in the fast time of 5 days 21 hours, anchoring in the Samoaji Harbour at three p.m. on May 5. After a stay of four and a-half hours, the .Sjen'a left; for Auckland, and stopped for the pilot in Rangitoto channel at five a.m. yesterday, anchoring in the harbour shortly aftfi'wardii. The steamer's actual time on the voyage was 16 days 13 hours 21 . jpinites; the steaming time being 15 days 21 hours 17 minutes. The medical and Cusoins inspection was promptly carried out and the Sierra berthed at the Queenabet Wharf, where the passengers, mails, anc baggage were at once disembarked, silt the work of discharging cargo and takng hi a supply of bunker coal preceded with. The Sierra had a fair number of passejgers for this port and Australia, and as the weather throughout the voyage was ««ptionaJly fine, all on board had a most eooyahle trip. the cargo by the steamer consisted of , 3,4/7 tons, of which 306 tons were landed at Auckland, consisting of the usual lines ef American merchandise.
