BOWLING.
Prince of Wales' Birthday (June 3) saw the closing scenes of this year's bowling, when trie Mount Eden Club brushed up their season. , . . . The several greens are now under treatment in anticipation of the opening of the 1902-3 season. Top-dressing, manuring, and the sowing of grass seed is in most oi the greens an accomplished fact by this time. Hie formation of new greens is also proceeding apace. Mount Eden have added live rinks to their available space for play; tne Unchunga Club is pushing on work on the green and the Rocky Nook Club's green is finished, so far as the green forming is concerned; the grass seed is sown, and is beginning to make a creditable show oi greenness, and preparations are now being made for the erection of a neat pavilion and the beautification of the grounds. ..,,-. . The Thames Bowling Club has joined tne association, and has registered maroon and sky blue a-s its colours. , . The association's annual smoke concert is announced for Thursday, the 12th inst. The musiud arrangements are in the capable hands of Messrs. Towsey, Philpot, and Cuipan, which is a sufficient guarantee that a choice programme will be presented. The Newmarket Club's winter green is now in full swing, being open every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, when play commences at a-quarter past two p.m. A successful progressive bowls tournament was held on the Prince of Wales' Birthday, and, being open to members of all the clubs, drew forth good entries. Only one player succeeded in going through the day without a loss, viz., Mr. McGruire, one of Newmarket's colts, who has shown remarkably good form during the season.
