I understand that with about two exceptions yacht-owners belonging to the New Zealand Yacht Squadron have made the requisite declaration of ownership, and that all the papers in connection with the application for the Royal warrant for the squadron will be forwarded to His Excellency the Governor next week. A committee meeting of the New Zealand Yacht Squadron is to be held in the club rooms on Tuesday evening next for the transaction of general business. Nothing definite has yet been fixed regarding new rooms for the New Zealand Yacht' Squadron, but the committee who have the matter in hand have been busily engaged during the past week in inspecting various buildings. The matter will come before the general committee on Tuesday evening next, by which time it is thought a suitable place will have been decided upon. Ponsonby Cruising Club hold its annual smoke concert in the Ponsonby Hall last night. There was a very large attendance, and the commodore (Mr. W. Bettany) presided, supported by Mr. M. PassmOre (patron) and Captain'.!. A. Subritzky (president). A number of toasts were proposed and responded to during the evening. The commodore presented the prizes won at the club's races and picnic during the season, numbering about 25. Mr. S. D. Hanna, at the request of members, presented the commodore with a very handsome marble clock, which had been subscribed for by the whole of the club. In making the presentation Mr. Hanna spoke of the very able manner in which Mr. Bettany had carried out his duties as commodore of the club during the past two years, and said it was greatly owiiig_ to his efforts that the club had occupied such a good position. Mr. Bettany suitably responded, thanking the members for the handsome gift, and assuring them that he would do all that he possibly could in the interests of the dub. The hall was beautifully decorated with bunting, which had been kindly lent for the occasion by Messrs. Ross and Ansenne. Amongst those present were a number of officers representing the various aquatic and sporting clubs, and a most enjoyable evening was spent by those present. The musical part of the programme was provided by Mr. E. Lahigan's string band, and the catering, which left nothing to be dosired, was carried out by Mr. T. King. Lynx.
