PIAKO MOUNTED RIFLES.

The Heother-Roberton belt was fired for at Te Aroha under very unfavourable weather conditions. The competitors had to run a certain distance, ride a certain distance, and get in as many shots as possible within a specified time. To do this in a storm of wind and rain ' over ploughed swamp land was no easy task. The winner, Corporal Steele, fired 17 shots for 38 points; the runner-up was Bugler Lawn, with 18 shots for 36 points. Lieutenant Strange* and Trooper Jansen discharged the duties of starting and timekeeping; Quar-termaster-sergeant Salmon and Marker Maxwell had control of the targets.
