| " AKARANA RIFLE CLUB.' Ox Saturday afternoon the members of the Akarana Rifle Club held a rapidity firing competition at the Avondale rang© for a gold medal presented by Mr. S. Kohn. On account of shooting attractions elsewhere, and the > inclemency of the weather, there was not a very large muster, only 14- members taking part in the competition. In accordance with the conditions the trophy ,was fired for at the 300 yds range, each competitor being allowed one minute in which to discharge as many shots as possible. At the expiration of the time limit the target was promptly turned down, and the value of the hits signalled from the butts. The majority of tho competitors got away a fair number,of shots, and the number of hits recorded to individual marksmen ranged from five to 10. The match, which was the first of its kind fired on the Avondale range, was both interesting and instructive, and as an experiment in the requirements of modern rifle shooting, may be considered very satisfactory. Mr. J. D. Webster was the winner of the competition, with a score of 32 points for nine hits, inclusive of two bull's-eyes, and the trophy becomes his property, .as under the conditions it was to be won outright. Mr. W. J. Phillips, with a total of 30, secured second place. The following are the individual scores: —
