MANUKAU YACHT CLUB
The annual social and presentation of prizes of the Manukau Yacht Club was held on •Saturday evening in the lodge room, Public Hall, Onehunga. .; Mr. E. Sutherland was voted to the chair, and, in his opening remarks, said the club, since its inauguration some 12 or 13 years ago, had steadily increased in strength, both financially and in the number of yachts on its register. The Chairman read the list of prize-winners for the past season, and remarked that the members had every reason to be pleased with the result of the racing, as out of the 17 or 18 regular starters, 12 boats had succeeded in carrying off prizes. The prizes were then presented, the first being the club's champion cup, which was won by Mr. P. Farrell's Maka Maile. The next prize to have been presented would have been the handicap cup, but owing to the unsuitableness of the weather on four consecutive Saturdays, tho last of the three races counting points for tho cup could not bo finished, and the club therefore decided to hold the cup oyer till next year. Other prizes presented were as under:— Mr. T. Bryant, two firsts, clock (presented by Mr. A. E. Cooke) and garden seat (presented by Mr. R. Vause); Molly Swash, Mr. Foster, a first, set of serviette rings- (presented by the late Mr. .1. Park); Mascotto, Mr. C. Hale, trophy (presented by Mr. Kelly): Ladysmith," Mr. A. Bayley, two first, cash prize; Endeavour, Mr. A. Fletcher, one first, cash prize; Fedora, Mr. C. 11. Green, a first and a second, cash prize ; Pretoria, two seconds, cash prize ; Petrel, Mr. G. Vasey, one second, trophy (presented by Messrs. 11. and H. Bray); Industry, Mr. J. Sims, one second, "trophy (presented by Mr. Prime) ; Myrtle, Mr. J. Skinner, two seconds, trophy (presented by Messrs. Watts Brothers) and cash prize: Iris, Mr. A. McLeod, one second, cash prize. Light refreshments were then handed round, after which musical items were contributed by tho following gentlemen:—Messrs. Ted. Sutherland, E. Goodwin, Andrews, C. Hale, G. Lloyd A. Watts, Pollen, L. Bray, W. Phipps, Hutchinson,, J. Prior, and E. Sutherland. During the evening the following toasts were proposed and honoured:—"The Manukau Yacht Club," proposed by Mr. N. Browne, replied to by Jno.'Skinnor; "The Prize-givers," proposed by Mr. C. Mcintosh, and replied to by Mr. R. Vause. Success to the Maka Made, winner of the champion cup, was then drunk at Mr. P. Farrell's request. Tho handicap cup was also filled, and passed round, at the request of Mr. N. Browne (present holder of the cup). The social then concluded with all present singing "Auld Lang Syne."
