NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.

A PRIMITIVE SCHOOLHOUSE. [BY. TELEGRAPH.—I'RKSS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Wednesday. AT a meeting of the Nelson Education Board it was resolved to apply to the Government for extra capitation, of 9(1, winch will yield £175 a year, an amount that will still leave the Board unable to meet pressing requirements. Inspector Harkness reported that at Oparara, Karamea district, a household school, attended by 20 children, is conducted i.i a slab building with an earthen floor, which was originally built as a cowshed. The door is fastened with a strap of cowhide, and the light of day comes through the 'chinks between the slabs. He urged the Board to remedy this, but the Board's balance is so small "that it deferred taking any action in view of pressing needs elsewhere.
