INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET.
CANTERBURY V. HAWKE'S BAY. [by TELEGRAPH.—press association.] 1 ' Christciiurch, Monday. The cricket match, Canterbury v. Hawke's Bay, commenced at Lancaster Park this morning. Tho weather had cleared up and was perfect for playing, .the wicket being in good order. Garrard, the Canterbury captain, won the toss, and decided to bat. The batting display was disappointing, a relieving feature being the fact that the younger members of the team, Strange, Wilding, J. Barry, jun.;-' contributed their share of the runs. Trott and Dent bowled unchanged, and both puzzled the batsmen. A feature of the Hawke's Bav innings was the fine innings by Trott and the unexpected stand by Dent and K. Cottrill for the last wicket. Eight bowlers were tried for Canterbury. With an hour left to play Canterbury went in again. Sims gave a'fino display of patient batting. The following are the scores: —
