REGULATION OF FERRY SERVICES.
A MEETING of delegates from the Auckland City Council, the Devonport and Birkenhead Boroiu'i Councils and the Waiteniula

There were present: Messrs. ... Li. Hamu-.u, A. K. Glover and Ai ihur Kosser, loproaeuting liic City Council; Mtssr;'. M. jNmcol, j'..\\'. Alison, .1. \V. Walker and K. H. Cutler, representing the Devonporc Borough Council ; luessrs. J. 11. Vvithel'ord, Vt'. Wallace and A. Iveyes, representing the Birkenhead Borough Coma::: and .ue—rs. Bruce and Wilson, representing the Wailcin.iia County Council. Gu the motion of Air. Liaunan, seconded by Air. Giover, Mr. M. Niceoi was called to the chair.
At the outset some doubt was expressed as to the position oi the Wuitemata County Council in view ol the i'acii thai the power to regulaio ferry .services is conferred by the Municipal Corporations Ac: ami not bj any Act from which county councils as distinct from uiuiiicipui bodies derive then powers. Mr. liwuuii moved and Mr. Clover seconded, "That in view of the 'doubt as to the locus standi of the Waitcmata County Council, the representatives of the Council bo permitted to take part in the conierence." This motion was adopted. Mr. tlo •ser moved, "That a sub-commit-tee ol two representatives from each local body be set up lo consider the position ana to report." Mr. Glover seconded. Air. Hannun strong.y objected to a small committee being set up, a;... moved. "That ail the delegates term the committee." This ameiumieut was put and declared lost. Ml'. Hannau called for a division, with the resuit that -'•--.!>. Garni:, :i. iveyes, Wallace, Dialer. Wilson and Una. a voted for the iuneiidmem, and Messrs. >,'ieool, itosser, Glover, Alison, \Y iriiei'urd ami Walker against. The voting being equal the chairman gave his casting vote against the amendment. The committee was then formed as follows:— Messrs. Ivicid and Glover (city), iveyes and Wallace (Birkenhead), Niccol and Walker (Dovonport), and Bruce and Wilson (Wailcmata County Council).
It was then resolved. "That the opinion of Air. T. Co,tor, solicitor, be taken as to the position of the Waitcmata Countv Council." awl on the motion of the chairman it was agreed that in the event of it being found (hut the Waitomafa County Council has no title to be represented on the committee, the remaining six delegates meet next Wednesday at three p.m. On the motion of Mr. Hannau it was agreed that all meetings of the delegates and of the committees be open to the public and the press.
