THE PROPOSED WAIHI BOROUGH.
OPPOSED BY THE OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL. [raOU'OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] aeroa, Thursday. At the meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council last night, Mr. Hammond, secretary of tho Waihi Improvement Society, submitted the petition which had been sent to the Government asking for the formation of Waihi into a borough. This petition had been returned for the sanction of the County Council, and it was asked that the Council give effect to the wishes of the petitioners. The Chairman (Mr. 11. P. Barry) moved, " That under the present circumstances it is inadvisable that Waihi should be formed into a borough, and that the chairman be authorised • to take all legitimate means to oppose the same, under the advice of tho county solicitors, and, further, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Government." Mr. Saunders seconded, and the resolution was carried unanimously without comment.
