ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT.
CHARGE AGAINST A BANK OFFICIAL. [by TELEGRAPH.I*BESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRisTcntracH, Thursday. A sensation was caused this morning when it became known that a charge of embezzlement had been preferred against one of the officials of the National Bank. Rumours had been circulated for some days as to defalcations at the bank, but little was definitely known until this morning, when Adam Oliver, telle, at the bank, surrendered himself to the police. He was brought to the Police Court a little later, and charged with having misappropriated moneys amounting to £1387. The police applied for a remand. Mi. Kippenberger, who appeared for the accused, in applying for bail, said that nearly £480 of the £1386. alleged to be embezzled, had been returned, therefore the amount missing was £960. A remand was granted till Monday, and bail allowed in sureties of £100 each, and accused's own recognisance of £100.
