RETRENCHMENT AT TIMARU.
[BY TELEGRAM. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Tihar'o. Tiesday. The Borough Council last night, it view of its financial position, resolved to dispense with the inspector of nuisances, ,nd reorganise the street works staff, gjtting a cheaper foreman. The overdraft exceeds the legal limit, and further advances are necessary to enable the borough to jay interest in London next month. The Council declined to reduce the price of waterto the freezing works (10 to 20 million jallona yearly) from 5d to 4d per 1000, as offered by the company. The Council would have to spend some hundreds of pounds to ay on the water.
