VOLUNTEERING NEWS.

WAIUKU MOUivxED RIFLES. The Waiuku Mounted Rifles assembled for their first parade on November 22 at two p.m. There was a splendid muster, 63 answering to their name;- out of a roll number of 68. Captain Barriball was in command, assisted by Lieutenants Makgill, Bent, and Herrold. The troop fell in in front of the orderly room, and was marched to tho parade ground, where they were /put through a number of mounted movements by Captain Barriball and Captain Reid, adjutant of the Auckland district. Before tho troop was dismissed, the inspecting officer (Captain Rcid) complimented the men on theii splendid appearance. The horses, with one or two exceptions, he considered good, and the men were all good. Ho also spoke in (jpmplimentary terms of Captain Barriball. After several matters connected with the corps had been arranged, Captain Barriball thanked the men for responding so promptly to such a 'short notice, and for tbei. attention to drill, and dismissed them. I may add that notice of the parade was only received from the Brigade Office late on November 19, so that the large muster was highly creditable. The troop assembled for night drill in .the Public Hall on November 24. All the officers were present. The total number on parade was 66. the roll number now standing at 71.— [Own Correspondent.]
