PUKEKOHE WEST.

The annual mooting of ratepayers of this district was held in t'ie Masonic Hall, on Saturday, May 5, at half-past two p.m. Tlicro were about 25 ratepayers present, and Mr. C. Sliipherd, chairman of the Board, presided. After a few remarks the chairman called on the- secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. G. Usher, to read the report and balancesheet, which is subject to audit, and after some discussion, was, on the motion of the chairman, duly adopted. The receipts for the year were £630 ss, the expenditure being £383 17s 4d, leaving a substantial balanco in bank and in hand of £246 7s Bd. An election also took place tho same day to fill ordinary vacancies, Mr. Usher acting as returning officer. The district being divided into subdivisions, an election took placo accordingly. For tlio Pmii Ward there wcro two members, and only two candidates, viz., Messrs. Sliipherd and Hart, who wore declared elected. Tlio annual mooting of tlio Pukekura Road Board was held on Friday. Present: Messrs. R. Fisher (chairman), E. Allen, T. Walker, and H. White. Only one tender was received for road work, it being deferred till next mooting. The annual meeting of rate- [ payors was hold subsequently. The secretary read tho statement of accounts, which showed a credit balanco on March 31 last of £1234 4s 2d.—(Own Correspondent.) OAMBIDGE. The annual meeting of the Cambridge Road Board was hold on Saturday. Present: Messrs. J. Taylor (chairman), M. Butler, and J. L. Edson. Mr. James Taylor was reelected chairman for the ensuing year. Tho Chairman reported on the proposed new road from Thornton Road to Oxford Road, that such was a necessity. The estimated cost was £25. As the Piako County Council is interested, nothing can be done ponding their decision in the matter. Tho olerk reported the credit balanco at date was £61 4s 3d, thero being rates outstanding to tho valuo of £23. Mr. M. Douglas wrote, asking to have a road marked on the Government map opened. A letter on the subject from Mr. 0. J. Parr, solicitor, was read, in which the writer stated he could find no trace of the road. Deferred till next meeting, so that the Government map might be inspected. H. Mahood's tender for work on the Hamilton Road, at 2s 5d per chain, was accepted. Captain McPhorson tendered his resignation as secretary, but the office hours and hour of meeting bo- j ing altered, he was prevailed on to eontinuo in the position. Captain MfPherson has been secretary of the Board for 19 years. —(Own Correspondent.) HAUTAPU. Tho annual meeting ot tho Hautapu Road Board was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs. J. Forrest (chairman), G. Watt, W. Parr, S. Cowling, and W. 11. Hall. Mr. Parr moved a resolution to the effect that the Board agrees not to support the candidature of Mr. W. 11. Thomas for tho Cambridge Road Board election. The moving of the resolution met with some disfavour, two members threatening to resign, but eventually '.ho motion was withdrawn, and tho meeting terminated amicably.
