AUCKLAND A.A. AND C.C. CYCLING RUN.

The opening cycling run of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club took place on Saturday afternoon, and in spite of the nasty westerly wind blowing, proved a great success. A start was made from the corner of Syinonds-street and Karangahape Road, and the procession then proceeded along tlio latter thoroughfare to the Three Lamps, Ponscuby; returned by the same route, ana then rode out to the Ellerslic racecourse. The procession was of unusual length, some >jOO cyclists taking part, the fair sex being very well represented. Mr. George Henning acted as captain. A great deal of interest was taken in the run by the public, the streets in town being lined with spectators. Upon arrival at the racecourse, the ladies were regaled with afternoon lea and refreshments, much appreciated after the dusty ride from town. A short sports programme was arranged and carried out by the committee, and the events caused a good deal of interest. Tilting at rings was the first event, and out of a large field J. Davis won with four rings to his credit in 11 seconds. J. Lecky also took four rings, but his time was 12 2-ss. J. Miller, the third man, had three rings 111 his lance, his time being Bs. Hie tent-peg-ging competition was won by George Henning, who took eight pegs in 14 2-ss. rbe second and third men were Upton and Joss, who each secured five pegs in lis. and 14s. respectively. Mr. George Henning gave an exhibition of trick riding, and performed some very clever and difficult feats, but unfortunately the competitions were also going on at the same time, and his performance was not seen to the best advantage. Tho gymkhana was over at about five p.m., when a start was made for town. The committee deserve credit for the manner in which the run was conducted. Tho racing club very kindly placed tho grandstand and lawn rt their disposal, and Mr. Hill, the. carotakor, gavo the committee all the assistance he could. AUCKLAND CYCLING CLUB. The following entries were received cn Saturday evening for the second-class scratch race, to be run at the Auckland Cycling Club's carnival on Saturday next at the Domain:— R. Waddel, F. McMahon, P. A. Smith, J. H. Mason, A. E. R. Harrison, F. Draffin, T. AY. Mayson, W. Marshall, W. Jamieson, E. H. Davis, G. R. Wilkinson. Among the passengers who arrived on Saturday by the Rotoiti was Mr. .1. W. Jones, the crack 'Canterbury cyclist, who is a competitor at the carnival.
