SWIMMING.

THE PROPOSED AMALGAMATION. The adjourned meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association (Registered) was held at the rooms of the Amateur Sports' Club on Friday evening, Mr. R. W. St. Clair (president) in the chair. The recommendations of tho sub-committee with regard to the amalgamation of the two swimming associations of tho colony, were discussed at length, and agreed to.' The recommendations as adopted provide for equal voting power in each of tho provincial centres; biennial alternation of headquarters; mutual recognition of transactions since the "split;" and, further, that the management should remain in Auckland for the ensuing year, after which it would be transferred definitely for two years to another centre, which centre would be eligible for renewal. The idea of the Aucklandeis, as shown by the trend of remarks at the meeting, is to support Christchurch as the next centre, while the management evinced a desire to meet the South in every respect, and were prepared to recommend' the appointment of a Southerner as manager of the team to be sent to Sydney early next year. The reason given for recommending that tho management should remain in Auckland for the forthcoming season was that as the Northern association was registered, and tho Southern one unregistered, it would necessitate the admission of the Southerners into the Northern body— would havu to bo by the customary process of election. The views of the association on the amalgamation have been forwarded to Christclnireh for consideration, and an early and definite reply is expected. The Council has adjourned until the 20th of next month, pending the reply from the South, and in the absence of any explicit arrangement being arrived at by that date, will then proceed to the election of officers, and will make provision for the incoming season. Stress is laid upon the necessity of making suitable arrangements for tho receplion of swimmers from Fiji, and of advancing the projected inter-Pacifio contests between swimmers from Auckland and San Francisco.
