A dkpotation of carpenters waited on the Minister for Railways, urging thnt tho men in their trade omployod in the railway workshops, whose wages are now 9a a day, should be paid the rate of wages given by private employers, viz,, 10s per diem, The Minlstor pointed oat that the railway men possessed privileges which carpenters working for private masters did not have, such as reduced fares, an annual holiday on full pay, etc., and that he was unable under the Railway Classification Aob to increase the rate of pay.
