The Hon. J. Carroll has accompanied the contingent to Christchurch. Messrs, Cadman, liall Jones, and McKenzio, are the Ministers in charge here.

SCHOOL TEAOHERB ON STRIKE. Ex-pupil teachers decline to go into the country, even in cases where the salary is larger than in Wellington. The Auckland rule on this subject was discussed at considerable length at a meeting of the Wellington Education Board, held today. Mr. J. Young said the oducntion of the district had eutfured from this refusal to take situations in the country, In Auckland, he said, the refusal of an ox-pupil teacher to go into the country was held to be equivalent to his or her resignation as a teacher.

THE LATE SUBURBS ELECTION.

We have not probably heard the lnsb of the Wellington Suburbs oleotion. Mr. Atkinson has the following advertisement in the evening paper:—" Those of my scrutineers, who were refused admission to the booths on the opening of the poll, are requested to inform me ab once of the grounds alleged for such refusal."
