The monthly meeting of the Parnell School Committee was held in the school-room ou Wednesday, the 7th inst,, when there were present; Messrs. N. W, Pollard (chairman), Wilson, T-Vhe, Cameron, Scott, Mitchell, and T. VV. Killip, secretary. Apologies were received from Messrs. Knight, A. Smith, and C. A. Smith. The head ■ teacher's monthly report was read, which was highly encouraging. The committee was glad to learn that Miss E. Revitt was recovering from her illness, and that she would soon be able to resume her duties. The average attendance for the month of March was 575, while the number on the roll was 666. It is confidently expected that when the new detached infant department is ready that a considerable increase of pupils will be registered. The committee, while, feeling sorry to learn that the district was about to lose the valuable services of Miss Kate Keesing, the members desire to congratulate that lady on her new appointment to the Bombay school, and that the best thanks of the committee be accorded Miss Keesing for her past services to the pupils of the Parnell .District School. It was resolved to bring under the notice of the Government, through Mr.F. Lawry, M.H.R. for Parnell, certain inconsistencies in the truancy section of the School Attendance Act. The school attendance shield was approved by the committee, and the committee expressed itself flatteringly of Mr. W. C. Davies for the great interest ho has taken in obtaining the shield. It was unanimously resolved to support Mr. Davies' application to the Board, for an increase of salary, the committee expressing great surprise, that an increase had hot been granted before this. A sub-corn-composed of the secretary and chairman, was appointed to draw up a report of the committee's proceedings for the past year, and to submit the same to a special meeting of the committee, prior to the annual meeting of householders. After the business was over, the Chairman (Mr. N. W. Pollard) addressed the committee, and stated as this whs the last regular meeting of the committee he begged to express his hearty thanks to the members for their support and respect throughout the past year, and he felt sure that the householders would be delighted to learn at the annual meeting of the substantial work performed by the committee during its term of office. Several of the members present expressed the pleasure they felt at the manner Mr. Pollard carried out the duties of chairman, and a resolution was moved by Mr. Tighe, »ud seconded by Mr. Mitchell heartily congratulating Mr. Pollard on such a prosperous term and thankiug him for hit services, was carried unanimously.
