[bi telegraph.—own correspondent.) Paeroa, Saturday. A yodng lady resident in Karangahake wal the victim of a most cowardly and bratal assault the other night on the main roid near Irishtown. As the young lady wa proceeding down the road a man described as being tall and slim, suddenly camewj from behind and seized hold of her. Sheol course cried out and strove to escape from the ruffian, who placed his hand round the helpless lady's throat and threatened to choke her if she called for help. On the renewal of her cries the merciless wretch seized her by the face aud forced his finjera into her month. He then shook her violentlj and threw her down on the road, bat anjfurther dastardly ill-usage was frustrated bj the arrivnl of two gentlemen (Mr. Meads and Mr. Sheehan), wiien the assaulter ran oS, and most unfortunately escaped unidentified The lady received a terrible fright, besides having her face scratched and throat severelj bruised. A young lad named J. Silcock, son of Mr. Silcock, foreman of works of the County Council, was kicked by a horse to-day, and received a fracture of the left leg. The injured limb was attended to by Dr. Buckby.
