CAR STAND NUISANCE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— nothing be done to lessen the nuisance arising front cab stands in Queenstreet. lam in the unfortunate position of being the occupant of an office in this street (for which I pay high municipal rates) in front of which.is a cab-stand. The stench coming from this source is ofttimes disgustingly offensive to ladies and others coming in to transact business. Myself and clerks, though somewhat nose-hardened to it, wish, very often, " for th% breath of the cowslip sweet" in preference to the evil odours abounding around us. Does the sanitary inspector ever go down Queen-street ? Could we have these stands well scoured with water and a disinfectant spread ? Could the cabs be relegated to side streets, or is the horsey interest so strong in the City Council that business people (paying heavy rates, presumably for decent streets) must submit to the dirty, illsmelling thoroughfare known as Queen-street! Our miiu street holds the undisputed record of b?iog the filthiest main artery of commerce in the colony. There are many business people in Queen-street, situated like myself, who want to know when this disgraceful ana unhealthy state of affairs is to be altered.— am, etc., Resident,
