ALLEGED DESERTION OF CHILDREN.
ACCUSED REMANDED TO HOBART. Yestkkdav afternoon, at the Police Court, Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., presiding, Arthur E. Jumps, a young man, was charged that he did on August 30,1895, at Hobart, Tasmania, without lawful reason or excuse, desert his two children, William Arthur and Geraldine Maud James. 'the accused was remanded * week ago, in order that the evidence of Sergeant Jos. Filby, of tho Hobart City police, might be obtained, Sergeant Filby, who arrived In Auckland this week, was present in Court to givo hi* evidence. He deposed that ncoiued had a wife, Theresa .lames, and two children (twined in the charge), now living at Hohart. Witneeti produced the warrant (signed by Ben. Shore, J.P., of Hobart) for the accused s arrest. Accused had failed to comply with an order for tho support of his two children; he made two payments, and then left Tasmania. Sorgeant Clarke, on conclusion of witness's evidence, asked for a remand to Hobart. His Worship accordingly remanded the accused to Hobart, delivering him into the custody of Sergeant Filby.
